About Victoria:
Victoria Ransom, Wolf clan, is a Kanien’kehà:ka artist from Akwesasne. She graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. At university, Victoria dedicated much of her conceptual art projects to educating her peers on Indigenous issues and culture. In doing so, she observed the power of expression as an alternative venue of educating the general public on the history and issues of Indigenous Peoples. After graduating, Victoria spent time in her community listening and learning about cultural teachings and cultural motifs of the Rotinonshonni from elders and traditional knowledge keepers. Victoria incorporates their teachings into her work to create a visual language and art that can help pass on traditional knowledge to the next generation.
The Rematriation Team & Board were incredibly impressed with the unique and thoughtful ways Victoria incorporates traditional motifs into new and innovative designs. We felt the theme of “Returning the Sacred to the Mother” throughout her work. Victoria’s style is one of a kind – be sure to slide through the images to see some of her previous work!
