Description:

Looking for a highly motivated, creative, and organized individual to support the mission of the non-profit organization Rematriation Inc., which supports a Sisterhood of Haudenosaunee and Indigenous Women. 

We are searching for an individual with a great work ethic and optimistic personality who brings a strong sense of Indigenous community and excellent communication skills. A highly organized collaborator with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

The individual may work remotely, but this position is best suited for an individual who, when needed, can travel among the communities of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and Syracuse, where the organization is located. Travel may be required for local community work and in-office work.

Job Description:

We are seeking an individual who holds a deep understanding of matrilineal and matrifocal Indigenous lifeways to create content for our platform to engage our social media community and facilitate the sharing of knowledge and voices of the Indigenous community. As the Content Creator, you will be responsible for creating, reviewing, and editing content for Rematriation, which will be published on Rematriation’s website and social media pages. The Content Creator is expected to work simultaneously with the Marketing Lead to maintain consistency between marketing campaigns and published content.

Responsibilities: 

  • Work with the Marketing Lead to get an understanding of the short-term and long-term marketing targets and then develop content strategies accordingly
  • Work with New Media and App Lead and Marketing Lead to create content that will catch maximum community interest
  • Writing and reviewing content for Rematriation’s website, social media pages, public communications, Rematriation App, and Newsletter
  • Collaborating with the New Media and App Lead and Marketing Lead to decide the brand taglines, logo, and other promotional material
  • Ensure that the content is compliant with the copyright and data protection laws, including fact-checking sharing of content from other reputable profiles on social media
  • Maintain consistency in content and ensure alignment with the brand history and plans
  • Update the website, social media, and content pages periodically
  • Provide regular reporting to the Rematriation Team
  • Other duties as assigned

Technical Skills & Knowledge:

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Skilled in Google Suite, Microsoft OfficeSome graphics software knowledge is preferred
    • Multi-media organization and curatorial skills
    • Solid interpersonal skills
    • Knowledgeable in multimedia content creation and editing (articles, videos, podcasts)
    • Knowledgeable in digital marketing and social media platforms
    • Knowledge of Slack, Canva, and WordPress are ideal
    • Strong communication skills and comfort in public communications through multiple platforms and in-person at community activities
    • Collaboration, amicability, and effective communications with team members and the ability to work cross-departmentally with Rematriations’s efforts.
    • Flexibility to work independently and in team environments
    • Deep understanding of matrilineal and matrifocal Indigenous lifeways
    • Knowledge of Indigenous media outlets 
    • Knowledge of Indigenous Nations and tribes across Turtle Island and the current issues our communities are facing
    • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask 

Oversight and Direction:

    • Receives moderate to limited supervision, working from objectives set by the Marketing Lead and New Media & App Lead
    • Handles some unique situations independently
    • Receives projects and direction by working in close collaboration with the Marketing Lead and New Media & App Lead, as well as the Rematriation team.
    • Organizes and carries out most assignments in accordance with standard organizational practices, instructions, or previous training. 

Problem Solving:

  • Independently researches solutions to problems and seeks guidance for feedback when necessary.
  • Confident in decision-making processes and execution of plans.
  • Bring challenges and opportunities to the Rematriation Team

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or work/experience equivalent
  • 3+ years experience working in a media field, ideally Social Media and Content Creation
  • non-profit experience 
  • A deep understanding of matrilineal and matrifocal Indigenous lifeways and Indigenous media is paramount to this position.
  • Familiarity with intergenerational trauma/trauma-informed care.
